Kuku — Experience Spaces

Your creative space to rent is just one click away
The Brief
Design the best search platform for creative spaces — photoshoot rooms, rehearsal studios, artist studios, and unique working locations — that are often hidden or poorly surfaced on the market. The platform needed to serve a diverse community of creatives while being equally fair and useful to landlords listing their spaces.
Discovery & Competitive Analysis
Starting under the working title "Brightspace", stakeholder interviews established the business requirements. Competitor analysis — Airbnb, Appearhere, Rightmove, and others — revealed clear market gaps and opportunities to make the platform distinct in both experience and visual identity.
Wireframing
The homepage was treated as the critical touchpoint — a balance of striking content and simple interaction. Each space listing page was structured around the details that matter most: the space itself, price, location, reviews, and amenities — making the selection decision fast and confident.
The Challenge — Connecting Two Sides
The core design challenge: create a seamless connection between landlords with unique spaces and a growing community of creatives looking for them. The search results system was designed so that pricing and ratings drove ranking, giving both sides of the marketplace a fair, transparent experience. Every wireframe was tested with real users to validate assumptions before moving to high fidelity.
The Outcome
Once tested and approved by all stakeholders, the full platform was delivered alongside comprehensive brand guidelines — covering colours, typography, buttons, and all UI components — ensuring consistency across any future digital or physical material.
